Sculpture Assignments

Here you can find a list of SCULPTURE classwork and homework assignments.

1/31 HW: Bring a piece of paper that you like or that has meaning to you.  It must be able to be cut up.

2/1 HW: Look up "Paper Sculpture" on the Internet.  Print out an image you like.  Write: How do you think the paper sculpture was made?

2/3 HW: Feedback Card.  Write on the notecard: What do you want to do in this class?

2/6: Finish Word Accordion Books.

2/10 HW: Look up "Artist Books" and "Altered Books."  Based on what you see and read, write a definition for each of these terms in your own words.  Print a picture of one that you like. Be prepared to discuss on Monday.

2/13-16 In class: Finish weavings, glue felt spine on book, practice sewing on mini-pamphlet book, bind sketchbook.

2/16: In class/HW: Look up "Altered Books."  Find one that you like and might use as an inspiration, print the picture.
         Gather at least 10 items that represent you or something important to you.  These can be pictures, words, ephemera like concert tickets, newspaper clippings, pencil shavings, pieces of cloth....but they must be cut- and glue-able.  We will use these materials in our next project.  (You can gather WAY more than 10, if you want.  You will probably need more.  Get creative.  You can always edit later.)

2/21: In class: View images of Altered Books.  Brainstorm for your altered book!!  Be ready to start tomorrow!

2/22-24: In class: Continue work on Altered Books.  Gluing demos, blade safety.

2/27-28: In class: Continue work on Altered Books.

3/5-3/9: In class: Continue work on Altered Books.  DUE Monday 3/12

3/13: In class: ALTERED BOOK REFLECTION - DUE WEDNESDAY 3/14 end of day (25 points)
Instructions: On a piece of notebook paper, answer the following questions in complete sentences. Use proper grammar and spelling.  (Be thoughtful and thorough. Describe specific examples in your book.)

1) Write your name and a title for your book.
2) What is the main theme of your book? How is it expressed visually?
3) What are three things you learned while making this book? HOW did you learn each?
4) What were your challenges?
5) What were your successes?

3/14: In class: Vic Muniz powerpoint.  Begin work on collaborative globe project.

3/15-16: In class: Group tasks - Globe, lettering, paper mache prep

**Next Project: Paper Mache Creatures.  You will create an animal (or imaginary creature) out of paper mache'.  You will need to find pictures of the animal(s) that you want to make, and create 2 finished sketches: 1 full body, from the side; and 1 from the front (face, details). 
HOMEWORK FOR MONDAY: Locate at least 2 photos of your animal, in a book, magazine, or printed off the internet.  You should be able to see the entire body, the face, and small details. Create at least 2 sketches of your animal: 1 front, 1 side. 
If you are making a combo-imaginary creature, you will need more reference photos to show all the different parts you plan to combine. 

3/19-23: In class: Paper Mache`.  PowerPoint, demos, building armatures.
HW: Armature sketches (Draw all the different pieces you will need to build for your armature.)

4/25: Paper Mache Animals Due

4/26: In class: Complete Self-Evaluation Form and participate in group feedback. (Share your successes and challenges during this project.)
HW: Create a sketch of your idea for the ceramics project.  You will create a small, useful container, approximately 6", with surface carving.  It might be a mug, vase, bowl, small teapot, or candle holder.  DUE FRIDAY
